My name is Ivan Sierra.
I was born in Bayamon, P.R. on September 17, 1985.
My family migrated from Puerto Rico to the United
States when I was 5. I started singing at 7 years
old. As a child growing up my cultural Latin
influences included: Hector Lavoe, Celia Cruz, Los
Hermanos Lebron, and La Lupe. As my family got
acclimated in U.S culture I was exposed to the
r&b/soul scene, which is where I discovered my
niche.
At 17 I was one of 430 applicants to get accepted
into the La Escuela De Bellas Artes School of fine
arts in P.R. I studied voice with Jose Francisco
Rodriguez, singing baritone in the concert choir.
My first choral performance was at El Teatro
Braulio Castillo Theater.
(All performances listed below)
My first solo performance was a Stevie Wonder
medley also at El Teatro Braulio Castillo in 2003.
I performed in Noche De Bohemia with my uncle
Felix Marrero and my aunt Lillian Marrero & their
band, and also in La Escuela De Bellas Artes De
Bayamon.
Upon commencement I returned to the U.S to pursue
singing in 2004.
My first performances here were at the Student
Curry Center at Northeastern University & La
Fiesta De Betance (the small festivals leading up
to the Puertorican Festival).
I joined the dance group Unique Rhythm, dancing to
a mix of Latin, Hip Hop, R&B, and Old School.
We performed at Northeastern, and for The Cloud
Foundation.
After that I performed at Critical Breakdown,
where I met Alida Rohr.
I have been studying vocal & recording technique,
as well as lyrics & song format, w/ Ms.Rohr for 3
years. I joined her band WeatherOutpost12 in 2005
after we began writing together.
We performed on channel 9 television for
Fernando’s Hideaway in 2004, and at Ryles Jazz
Club twice in 2007.
I have recorded two albums on which I co-composed
&/or did vocals, w/WeatherOutpost12 at Mix One
Studios:
