lyrics for 'Cheap Indigo' c.1986 #7 / Hey #7, call me when you get here!, A

My father placed me in front of a stereo after i was born,...he decided i should be a Musician...was raised up on Bach/Beethoven/Bruckner/& all the rest of those Boyz. He thought Birgit Neilson was cool...I had a lot of trouble digging her, but wanted to please my old man.
The 'pleasing thing' ended the 1st time I heard James Brown & the Famous Flames on the Radio doing 'O Baby, Don't you Weep!'...I was 11 & had begun sneaking off to listen to AM Top40...(kept it from my old man)...& decided that I wanted to sound like James not Birgit. ________________________________________________ I snuck into UVM when I was 19,...joined all the vocal groups, got all the solos...so when Herr Conductor found out I wasn't a student-legit,...he let me stay ( I would like to thank Dr. Francis Weinrich )....studied voice w/ Alice Cody & piano w/ Luba Johnson.
I was drowning the accidental discovery of my boyfriend-w/a-friend?-in-the-bushes, @ the HarborHideAway, when the director of Admissions for New England Conservatory sat next to me. I would like to thank Bill Mahan for discovering me,auditioning me,& going to bat for me...he said to the judges @ the Pipes that I was his "LONG SHOT!"....I am Bill, I promise.
I faked my way through every audition @ NEC by memorizing all alto1,2,/soprano1,2 parts...I garnered a reputation for being a monster SIGHTREADER....very big in the classical world!...I still cannot sightread & would like to apologize for being so ruthless.
The 1st time I ever saw Carnegie Hall was from the Stage looking out....lots of Red Velvet...lots of Crystal Chandeliers & shiney Brass. the 1st recording i ever did was Berlioz/Romeo&Juliet w/ the BSO on DeutcheGramophone....ok....ok...so I was only in the Choir.
I did a double major in Early Music/Lieder&Oratorio, & 3rd Stream, under Ray DeVol, Gerri Martin & Ran Blake......
....played w/ Joe Pass & Larry Coryell
I was discovered @NEC by Tony Cennamo ("Creation on a mortal level is difficult to come by. Alida Rohr is a creator of song styling....who will be heard from; who must be heard from." T.Cennamo/WBUR Boston) while performing w/Jon Davis @ a 3rd Stream 'Tribute to Billy Holiday' Concert.("Perhaps the nicest surprise was an absolutely riveting "Good Morning Heartache by pianist Jon Davis & singer Alida." M.Rowland/the REAL Paper,Boston/'78) VOOF,contact me if you read this!!!where R U anyhow??? _______________________________________________ The man whose name I kept, was responsible for teaching me to be a serious musician.....also introduced me to Frank Z.,,which was ostensibly the END of my classical career & the beginning of the treacherous journey of a Classical-Defector!! (quick!!!....get the net.) D# (Carla Bley Band/Modern Lovers) taught me to be a serious Jazzer. Lowell Skinner Davison (contemporary of Ornette Coleman) taught me to play 'OUT'. Tony Cennema almost got me signed w/a great Indie Lable but I was too stupid & didn't JUMP!!! Nii Narku from Accra,Ghana taught me everything African, & Pedro Ito taught me everything Brazilian.........the rest is history. _____________________________________________ I did a duo w/ Jonny{'Jaco Pastorius - Curtain Call',& Jaco w/' Brian Melvin Trio - 'Standards Zone','Nightfood ','JazzStreet'}Davis ("...something remarkable happens when you (Alida) & Jon(Davis), play together.....I get the same king of feeling when I listen to other duos that seem to be born in Heaven ~ accompanists ~ Pavoratti had John Worsman & Billie Holiday had Teddy Wilson,...Ella had Tommy Flanagan & You (Alida) have Jon Davis!" Ron Dellachiesa, "Musicamerica"/WGBH,Boston)
& have had 4 bands:
the ARB aka Sophie & the Abusers ~ Stuar tHamm on Bass, BruceArnold on guitar, Boh on Drums & M.Moss on sax
the Jugular ~ Orin on guitar, M.Nowak on percussion, Butchy on Bass & Ricky Ianuzzi on traps
Umbata Cameleon Band ~ Nii Narku on Afican drums & percussion, Michael Rivard (Club Delf) on Bass
& WeatherOutpost12

I agree with Matt.  I was pleasantly shocked when I found WOXII.

I've listened to all kinds of music, played rock/jazz/blues...Nowhere have I heard the combination of music, words and  vocals as I've heard on the WeatherOutpost12 CD's...it's a soul southing,  mind trip into the universe with a relaxing effect upon the listener.Thank You for Turning me on to WOXII Music!
