Music That Influences Me.

Okies,
This is the first blog I've ever done before...so bear with me. There
won't be any bells 'n whistles or cool picture inserts...cause i don't
know how to do it...but today, I want to talk about some music and
musicians that have influenced me. Ready? Here we go. ~ Mike Patton Mike
Patton is probably the main staple of my musical listening. His music
is generally considered "rock" but it really explores the boundaries of
that generic label. His music wanders, rather expertly, through jazz,
and classical, and blues and just about anywhere he can take it. I hear
a serious influence from Frank Zappa in his music, just like i hear
Mike Patton's influence in other bands like Mindless Self Indulgence.
It's hard to see it from a moderate sampling of his work, especially if
you listen to say, a small amount of Faith No More or Mr. Bungle. If
you get past the first taste of his music, you'll discover other
flavors, a rainbow of colors and emotions to his music that were not

~ Daft Punk It's
difficult to go from Mike Patton's music to a band that makes primarily
Techno, but, this band is one I listen to often. It's also hard to call
two people a band, especially when they barely use actual instruments
and people, i feel wrongly, accuse Daft Punk of using nothing but
samples of other peoples work...which really isn't the case. Out of 40
songs done in the studio as original works and not re-mixes, 12 songs
contain confirmed samples of other peoples work in them. Some of these
samples used are the basis for the entire song, however, that
overshadows the fact that many of the original songs were cheesy and
never really reached the full potential that the original band had
intended. Also,Daft Punk has credited these samples in their albums
line notes and credits pages. Thing is, I feel Daft Punk has brought
these songs more to the fuller potential than the original artist had
ever dreamed of. The thing that drew me to this band, was their
nostalgic sense of the the past, mainly their childhood, which was
within the same decades I grew up in (the 70's and 80's) There's a lot
of analog digital sounds in it. Their album Discovery features added
filters here and there to make it sound like a low grade record player.
You know, the muffled bass sound that was such low-fi crap? Daft Punks
main sound is that of Disco mixed with modern techno. The album
Discovery is pretty much considered to be their best work yet. Check

much more I could keep adding to this, but these two are in my main
listening rotation. So, go ahead and let me know if you've heard of
